Rick Hughes

Rick Hughes - Attorney in Smithville and Nashville TN Stefan Richard "Rick" Hughes brings his 30-year legal background in civil litigation to tpmbLAW, joining as a Partner in 2024 after practicing in Bowling Green, KY, and at another Nashville firm.

His practice experience is in representing businesses, employers, and individuals, with a record of success in case dismissal, mediation, arbitration, and jury trials. Over the years, his trial experience has included defending motor vehicle, premises, and product liability cases. In addition, a part of his practice has been counseling insurers or businesses on insurance coverage issues and providing opinion letters.

Rick earned his B.A. in Economics from Transylvania University, summa cum laude, and his J.D. from the J. David Rosenberg College of Law at the University of Kentucky where he was a member of the Journal of Natural Resources and Environmental Law.

He has been published in the Journal of Natural Resources & Environmental Law for Cumberland Reclamation Co. v. United States: Defining Coal Dredging as Surface Mining under SMCRA, 8 J. Nat. Resources & Environmental L. 105. In addition, he presented a seminar in Bowling Green to health care professionals on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

A graduate of Leadership Bowling Green (Bowling Green-Warren County Chamber of Commerce), Rick has served as a Board Member of Kids on the Block, the Kentucky Library & Museum (Western Kentucky University), and Plum Tree Montessori School, where he served as President. In addition, he is a member of the Mid-Century Literary Club.

A native of Wuerzburg, Germany, Rick holds dual citizenship in the United States and Germany and is proficient in the German language. He is an avid gardener, cook, and hiker, having trekked in many parts of the U.S., in the Alps and in other parts of Europe.
